Vietnam is estimated to have recorded 522,000 hungry families between Jan and Jun, with 2.16 million starveling people, down 13% and 4.7% on year, respectively, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSP) said. Most of the households are mainly in rural remote mountainous provinces, central coastal areas and central highlands region. To ease the situation, the government and organizations at all levels have provided nearly 16,500 tons of food and VND9.2 billion ($444,400) for the needy people since beginning of the year.
