Vietnam recorded 143,700 hungry households last month, with 587,900 hungry people, mainly from northern mountainous provinces, central coastal areas and central highlands region, the General Statistics Office said. Prolonged bitter cold affecting production activities and lives of local residents were blamed to the situation. The government and organizations have provided over 10,500 tons of food and over VND2.3 billion for the needy people so far this year. (GSO Feb Edition)
