Authorities of Vietnam’s southern province of Ca Mau have worked out a VND200 billion ($9.71 million) plan on building an embankment system for anti-landslides in the area of Ca Mau Cape. Local authorities have initially mobilized VND7-billion capital investment from the bidders and provincial budget with an aim to build 420 kilometers of an underground embankment system in high-risk areas.
The reinforced concrete embankment system is expected to prevent sea water overflow, create alluvial ground, restore and plant more protective forests in a bid to facilitate local production activities.
The province is also calling for more investment from the government to better implementation of the project due to its limited budget. Vietnam is also facing a severe lack of funds for upgrading dyke systems, negatively affecting the national flood prevention program. The government spent VND3 trillion ($144.93 million) on dyke repairs in the 2006-2010 period, but the money only covered about 25% of the work, experts said, adding that “we are calling for investment from enterprises and organizations to repair the dyke systems.
