Vietnam wants to further cooperate with the World Bank (WB) in public investment reform, banking and finance, business restructuring and technical infrastructure development, a senior official said. National Assembly Deputy Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan expressed her hope at a reception for WB East Asia and Pacific Regional Vice-President Pamela Cox in Hanoi on July 25. Ms. Ngan praised WB’s ongoing support for Vietnam, especially for the improvement of management capacity, technical assistance, industrial development and policy consultancy. She noted that Vietnam is currently implementing law reform, developing infrastructure and improving the quality of human resources. For her part, Ms. Cox spoke highly of Vietnam’s ongoing efforts in stabilizing the economy and affirmed that the WB will continue to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam and help the country overcome challenges during its socio-economic development. The WB is committed to assisting Vietnam to fulfill its development targets, Ms Cox affirmed. WB, Vietnam’s biggest donor, has pledged to fund $4.2 billion to help Vietnam implement a new Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) in the 2012-2016 period.
