The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has funded nearly $3 million for disability support projects in Vietnam’s central city of Danang since Oct 2008. The funding has been provided via the U.S.’s non-governmental organizations of Save the Children, the East Meets West Foundation (EMWF) and the Vietnam Assistance for the Handicapped, the Phap Luat TP.HCM newspaper reported Dec 15. The information was released during a meeting on Dec 13 between the USAID in Vietnam with the municipal leaders to review USAID-funded charitable programs. The USAID-funded projects focused on providing charitable operations, rehabilitation and vocational training for handicapped people as well as granting scholarships to outstanding children in the city. Vietnam has around 5.3 million of people with disability, making up for 6.34% of its total population. The USAID has donated up to $330 million for charitable programs in Vietnam for a decade.
