Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will carry out a $74 million green agricultural project as funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Thoi Bao Kinh Te newspaper reported on Mar 13. The “Low Carbon Agricultural Support Project” will aim to decrease carbon emission and boost waste management in agricultural activities in northern mountainous provinces of Lao Cai, Son La, Phu Tho, Bac Giang, northern provinces of Nam Dinh, central provinces of Ha Tinh and Binh Dinh, and three Mekong Delta provinces of Tien Giang, Ben Tre and Soc Trang. The project will help improve the waste management infrastructure, provide credit for biogas value chains and facilitate the transfer and application of modern technologies to manage agricultural waste. The Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (Agribank) and the Co-operative Bank of Vietnam will participate in the project’s financial part. On Mar 8, the ADB signed another $37.88 million loan with the government of Vietnam for the Project Preparation and Startup Support Facilities. The loan will help Vietnam prepare and implement ADB-funded projects to ensure aid effectiveness. (Thoi Bao Kinh Te Viet Nam – Vietnam Economic Times Mar 13 p9)
