The Prime Minister has signed a decision on agricultural insurance for the 2011-2013 period, which provides 100 percent insurance for poor households or peasants on a trial basis. The state will also provide an 80 percent assistance package for households and individuals who are a shade above the poverty line, 60 percent for other groups, and 20 percent for agricultural production organizations. Agricultural insurance will cover rice, cows, buffalos, pigs, poultry, tra and basa fish, sugpo prawns, and whiteleg shrimps in provinces and cities such as Nam Dinh, Dong Thap, An Giang, Haiphong, Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, and Ca Mau. The pilot implementation of this form of insurance aims to help agrarian producers overcome and make up for losses caused by natural disasters and epidemics.
