Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a planning on treating solid waste in Hanoi until 2030, that costs nearly VND11 trillion ($524 million), under which between 80% and 100% of solid waste in urban and rural areas will be collected and treated by then. The collection would be conducted on an area of 3,344 square kilometers capacity between 6,700 and 10,200 tons per day. Hanoi discharges 5,500 tons of solid waste a day but its treatment capacity remains weak, causing serious pollution. (Kinh Te Do Thi April 28 p6)
