Oxfam International in Vietnam on March 28 launched a new project analyzing the country’s poverty reduction policies. Accordingly, from now until 2016, monitoring work will be carried out in 10 provinces and cities nationwide, with the implementation of policies at local level under particular scrutiny. In-depth consideration of poverty in urban areas and among ethnic groups will also take place. The organization’s recent research shows that, as of March 2014, Vietnam has 501 policies relating to poverty alleviation. However, many of them overlap while others are not in line with reality in some localities. Le Kim Dung, Oxfam Vietnam representative, said that the project, funded by Irish Aid and the Swiss Cooperation Program in Vietnam, will give specific recommendations on poverty reduction policies to lawmakers at national and provincial levels.
