According to the People’s Committee of the central province of Ninh Thuan, from 2009-2011, the province completed building 4,232 houses under the implementation of the Prime Minister’s decision on providing housing for the poor, one year ahead of schedule. The houses were built for poor families in six districts of the province with a total capital of VND100 billion. Apart from the assistance of the State, poor families also contributed money, working time and available materials to build houses. Many houses were built larger than the minimum area, some up to 70 square meters with VND20-VND60 million each. In 2012, Ninh Thuan province will continue the project, building 3,487 houses for the poor with capital of VND73.6 billion. Thanks to the policy, poor communes have seen positive changes with remarkable improvements in living conditions, contributing to rapid and sustainable poverty reduction. (cpv.org.vn Mar 20)
