June has been designated as the action month for mother-to-child HIV transmission prevention in 2014. Over the month, Hanoi will focus on promoting communication activities in various ways to increase the number of 14 to 49 year old women who have access to information on mother-to-child HIV transmission prevention. The information was released by Deputy Director of the Hanoi Health Department Nguyen Van Dung. Hanoi will also promote activities related to mother-to-child HIV transmission prevention services packages comprehensively. The action month will also see an expansion of initiative in prevention, contributing to reduce the rate of mother-to-child HIV transmission in the area. By raising the awareness of the population in general, women of childbearing age and pregnant women in particular of mother-to-child HIV transmission prevention, Hanoi has created more opportunities for HIV-infected pregnant women to gain early access to mother-to-child HIV transmission prevention services in the action month. On this occasion, Hanoi will also organize training courses to improve qualifications of health workers in consultancy, testing, premature treatment, caring for, and bringing up children with HIV.
