A shortage of tap water is making life difficult for 60 per cent of households in central Nghe An Province's Hung Nguyen District. The disruption in supplies has forced residents to buy water from other localities at high prices ranging from VND120,000-150,000 ($5-7) per cubic metre. The shortage has been blamed on decreasing water levels at reservoirs due to prolonged hot weather and dry winds from Laos since early this month. Local authorities are yet to announce effective measures to solve the problem apart from urging local residents to save water and build their own water storage tanks at home. (Vietnam News June 21)
