The government of Japan will fund more than $4 million to restructure legal system in Vietnam under a four-year project signed in Hanoi Feb 25, state media reported Feb 28. The project which will begin in April was signed by Tsuno Motonori, chief representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Vietnam, and Vu Khanh Ngoc, head of Department of International Cooperation under the Ministry of Justice. It is aimed to boost supervision of national justice agencies in judiciary system on expectations of improving legal documents amid rising foreign investments and strong globalization. This is in line with the Japan-funded project on legal and judiciary restructure in Vietnam initiated in 2007. The Japanese supports in the Law on Enforcement of Civil Judgments and State Compensation Law received approval by the Vietnamese National Assembly in 2008 and 2009, respectively. JICA has started supporting Vietnam in legal restructure since 1996. So far, Japan ranks the fourth biggest investor in Vietnam with $20.96 billion behind South Korea with $22.35 billion.
