Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi has targeted to increase the proportion of schools meeting national standards to 50%-55% by the end of this year from 41.2% in 2014, said Pham Thi Hong Nga, deputy director of the municipal Department of Education and Training. The target is part of Hanoi’s education development plan in the 2011-2015 period, when it aimed to standardize 100 schools each year. Over the past three years, Bac Tu Liem, Long Bien, Tay Ho, Thanh Tri, Ha Dong and Dan Phuong were the districts that had the highest numbers of nationally-standardized schools. Last year, Hanoi had 119 more schools meeting national standards, increasing the city’s number of schools of this kind to 1,023. (Hanoi Moi – New Hanoi Feb 3)
