Vietnam has succeeded in ensuring human rights for ethnic minority people, said a senior expert from the European Centre in Vietnam. The remark was made by Ewa Chylinski at a workshop on human rights for ethnic minorities in the Central Highland province of Lam Dong on March 7-8. She said that Vietnam has helped ethnic minority people to build their own houses in a resettlement program that other nations could adopt. Chylinski was among 50 specialists from the European Delegation to Vietnam, the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Public Security and the Central Highland provinces of Lam Dong, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Lak and the southern province of Binh Phuoc who attended the workshop. They discussed laws and policies on ethnic minorities and the rights of ethnic minorities in Vietnam, including the right to benefit from social welfare policies, political rights and property ownership rights. They proposed a number of measures to step up the protection of human rights for ethnic minorities. The topics covered included land policies, local culture protection, education, vocational and personnel training and continued reform of the legal system for ethnic minorities. (vov.vn Mar 8)
