The implementation of ethnic work in the central and Central Highlands regions was reviewed at a conference held in the Central Highlands city of Buon Ma Thuot on July 1. The ethnic work is always considered as a vital part of the national socio-economic development strategy, which could help improve the living conditions of over 12 million people from ethnic minority groups throughout the country. The lives of ethnic minorities in the two regions have been better with the proportion of poor households reducing 4% annually over the past three years, especially after the Government’s Decree 05 on Ethnic Work was put into life. The central and Central Highlands regions have received due attention of the Party and State and benefited from important policies and programs on housing and farming land and clean water. New socio-economic infrastructural facilities in rural and remote areas were built, contributing importantly to socio-economic development in the regions. Despite these improvements, socio-economic development levels in ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas in the two regions remain low. Many ethnic minority people have yet to settle in and those residing in mountainous areas are coping with numerous setbacks spiritually and materially, the conference heard. (vietnamplus.vn Jul 1)
