Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung signed Decision No.75/QD-TTg on June 12 establishing a Central Steering Committee for Sustainable Poverty Reduction in the 2011-2020 period, to be headed by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh. The Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs will be the committee’s Permanent Vice Chairman and Minister – Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities will hold the position as its second Vice Chairman. The committee will be responsible for coordinating ministries, agencies and localities to deal with issues related to poverty reduction mechanisms and policies. It will guide industries and agencies in developing relevant policies and mobilize resources in disadvantaged localities to reach the targets for sustainable poverty reduction. The committee will also develop a National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction in the 2011 – 2015 period, submit it to PM for approval, and organize its implementation.
