An explosion at a brick factory in Hanoi on Oct 8 killed a worker and seriously injured two others. The Gia Lam District police suspect that a bomblet that had remained undetected in the clay went off inside a brick-making machine at Quyet Chien Joint-stock Company. The blast killed Truong Phu Tung, 27, on the spot. Nguyen Van Sau and Nguyen Van Tu, both 26, were rushed to a nearby hospital with critical injures. Police are investigating further. Bomblets in clay are also thought to have caused an explosion at a brick factory in Soc Son District, Hanoi, last month, leaving two workers dead, news website VietNamNet reported. Though the origin of the latest explosive is not known yet, bomblets, or small bombs in cluster bombs used by the U.S. during the war, continue to pose a threat in Vietnam decades after the war ended.
