Caritas Switzerland is an independent Catholic development and relief organisation, active in Switzerland since 1901. Activities in Switzerland include social programmes and disaster relief. International cooperation includes development programmes and disaster relief and rehabilitation, emphasising solidarity with marginalised people in their efforts to satisfy their basic needs. "Solidarity is a firm and persevering determination to commit oneself to the common good, that is, to the good of all and each individual, because we are all really responsible for all."
History of operations in Vietnam
IIn 1993, Caritas Switzerland joined the CIDSE CLV (Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam) Programme. In 1996, Caritas established a project office in Ha Noi and provided direct support to development and emergency relief and rehabilitation projects in Binh Thuan and Ha Noi (Former Ha Tay) provinces. In 2006, Caritas developed a strategic plan for its Viet Nam programme for the period 2006-2010. Caritas Luxembourg and Caritas Norway are pivotal partners of the Caritas Switzerland programme in Viet Nam, regularly monitoring progress and providing financial and technical support
