Vietnam’s southern city of Can Tho June 15 recorded the first people contracting vibrio cholera, head of the municipal provision health center Nguyen Trung Nghia said. The patient, a 38-year-old woman from Cai Be district’s My Duc Tay commune in the southern province of Tien Giang, was hospitalized with symptoms of stomachache, vomiting and diarrhea after attending a party in Can Tho City on June 11, state media cited Nghia as saying June 16. Local authorities have not yet defined whether the epidemic source is from Tien Giang province or Can Tho City, Nghia said, however adding the patient’s relatives were tested negative to the vibrio cholera. Cholera has attacked 31 people in Hanoi, Haiphong, Bac Ninh, Ha Nam, Hai Duong, Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Ben Tre and Can Tho since early this year.
