The Vietnam National Assembly (NA) and government on June 16 approved resignation of Minister of Education and Training (MoET) Nguyen Thien Nhan, who will make more efforts for the task as Deputy Prime Minister. Pham Vu Luan, MoET deputy minister would provisionally undertake Nhan’s duty until a new minister is elected, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported on June 17. Nhan was appointed to head of the ministry in June 2006 and in July 2007, the NA appointed him Deputy Prime Minister and head of the MoET when he was 54 years old. During his office, Nhan has made great contributions to the national education development. He and his colleagues had worked out lots of measures to improve the education quality, build more student dormitories and curb the number of drop-outs.
