Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Environment and Natural Resources has completed assessing pollution of the Thi Vai River, including Vedan Vietnam’s wastewater discharge into the river. The river has received nearly 94,000 cubic meters of wastewater a day from industrial zones in the provinces of Dong Nai and Ba Ria - Vung Tau. Seven kilometers of the river is severely polluted, the institute added. Results of the research showed that the concentration levels of COD, DO and NNH3 in the water exceed the permitted levels and the water cannot be used for irrigation. The General Department of Environment will make public the evaluation this month that will help local authorities define the responsibility of companies including Vedan causing the pollution.
