The Vietnamese Ministry of Health is piloting a project of first-aid clinics along four highways to reduce the rate of fatality caused by traffic accidents. The project aims to provide timely aid to victims of traffic accidents along the highways of Hanoi - Nghe An, Hanoi - Haiphong, Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho and Dong Nai - Ba Ria-Vung Tau, the state-run Vietnam News Agency said. According to the National Committee for Traffic Safety, nearly 50,000 victims in traffic accidents in Vietnam are in need of first aid a year. The Southeast Asian country reports 11,000-12,000 deaths caused by traffic accidents annually, which is blamed for the lack of immediate medical care or wrong initial treatment.
