The U.K.-based Arup global engineering, technique and consulting group has pledged to support Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City to build a water source management plan as part of efforts to mitigate impacts of climate change, a senior official of the firm said. The group’s Director Mark Watts told an urban life conference in the city May 12 that the city should build reservoirs to hoard water in the rainy season, local media reported. Roger Alley, senior manager of Arup, said that HMC City needs to map out plans on managing water use demand of local residents and water source preservation. HCM City plans to spend nearly VND55 billion ($2.89 million) to build four clean water supply systems in Can Gio district. Founded in 1946 with an initial focus on structural engineering in London, Arup first came to the world’s attention with the structural design of the Sydney Opera House, followed by its work on the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
