The Ho Chi Minh City Communist Youth Union has funded VND3.3 billion to help nearly 13,800 young people escape from poverty, the Communist Party of Vietnam said June 24. During a meeting to review youth activities in the 2009-2010 school year, the city youth union said over 834,265 members have participated in volunteer activities, including humanitarian blood donations, payments of gratitude and social work over the past several years. The union also said 183,600 pupils and students in the city participated in environmental protection activities during the school-year.
