More than 70% of residents in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City have been dissatisfied with foods sold on the local market, raising much concerns over their safety and hygiene, the Thanh nien newspaper reported Mar. 8. Pham Phuong Thao, the chairman of municipal People’s Council, was quoted by the newspaper as saying that the dissatisfaction rate was up from 61.3% at the end of last June. Local residents have also doubted of quality of foods at some supermarkets where expiry date of a product can be changed. Last year, the city’s inspectors collected VND8.5 billion from violations to the food safety and hygiene requirements.
