Vietnamese and foreign scientists have discovered a new lizard species in the central highlands province of Kon Tum, the fifth of its kind in Vietnam since 2004. The new species, which lives in tropical evergreen forests at heights of more than 1,000 meters, belongs to the Pseudocalotes family, state media reported Mar. 30. The species was collected by scientists under a joint research program on biodiversity by the Institute for Ecology and Biological Resources, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Saint Petersburg Institute for Zoology (Russia). The four other species included Acanthosaura nataliae (2006), Bronchocela orlovi (2004), Brochocela vietnamensis (2005), and Pseudocophotis kontumensis (2007).
