Authorities of Vietnam’s central highlands of Gia Lai have handed over 18 charity houses worth over VND20 million each to poor people. The beneficiaries are from the needy people in Ayun Pa town, the Dai Doan Ket online newspaper reported Aug 10. Vietnam targets to reduce the number of poor households to less than 9.5% this year, down from 11.3% in 2009, the Ministry of Labor, Ward Invalids and Social Affairs said. (daidoanket.vn Aug 10)
