The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) hailed Vietnam’s efforts in gender equality at the 26th meeting which took place in Vientiane April 25-26. Addressing the meeting, Laotian Parliamentary Chairman Thongsinh Thammavong said that Vietnam is the unique country in the Southeast Asia having annual reports on the gender equality to the Parliament. Thongsinh Thammavong added that with the Law on Gender Equality Vietnam is listed among ASEAN countries which have the highest rate of female parliamentarians at 25.8%. During the event, the Vietnamese delegation focused on women’s role in family and public and on female parliamentarian’s roles in coping with climate change.
