The French Development Agency (AFD) and the European Union (EU) have financed EUR35 million for clean water supply and environment projects in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta provinces and cities. The AFD has funded EUR32 million to a project to provide clean water for 85% of urban residents in An Giang, Ben Tre, Dong Thap, Tra Vinh and Vinh Long provinces and Can Tho city between 2009 and 2011. The EU has granted EUR3 million to help Mekong Delta provinces prevent urban environment pollution, the Vietnam News Agency said Thursday.
Urban areas in the region discharge around 102 million cubic meters of wastewater, 600,000 tons of solid waste and 47 million liters of liquid waste a year.
