Up to 70% out of one million cubic meter of wastewater discharged daily by 126 industrial parks in Vietnam are not treated, said a senior official from the Vietnam Environment Administration (VEA). Le Ke Son vice head of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment’s VEA released the information at a meeting on the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and researches on water and environmental services in Hanoi on Dec. 03. Charles Chaumin, CEO of Suez Group gave an overview assessment of the PPP in the public water supply and wastewater services and introduced a model the group is implementing successfully in China, particularly in Macau. Participants also proposed that Vietnam should create more incentives for businesses which get in involved in the field. Vietnam targets to develop concentrated wastewater treatment systems in 40% of urban areas, 70% of industrial parks and collect and treat 90% of solid waste, 60% of harmful waste and 100% of medical waste by 2010.
