WB-aided Proj to Help Protect 42K Ha More of Mangrove Forests in Vietnam
The Forest Sector Modernization and Coastal Resilience Enhancement (FMCR) Project, funded by the World Bank (WB), aims to help protect an additional 42,000 hectares of coastal mangrove forests in Vietnam in 2023, state media reported.
The forests are in Vietnamese localities namely Quang Ninh, Haiphong City, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien-Hue.
The project was launched in 2019, but was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and floods in 2020 and 2021, thus, it has been under implementation for only 20 months.
Last year, the project helped plant nearly 3,000 hectares of coastal protective forests. Since the beginning, it has contributed roughly 4,000 hectares to Vietnam’s scheme on coastal forest development in 2021-2030. (Nong Nghiep)
