Vietnam Vows to Fulfill Commitment for Net-Zero Emissions by 2050: PM

Vietnam is determined to fulfill its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, with a goal to rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 43.5% by 2030 and achieve a renewable energy ratio of more than 70% by 2050, affirmed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Speaking at the Climate Ambition Summit, within the 78th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 78)’s High-level Week, in New York on September 20 (local time), the PM emphasized that climate change is the biggest global challenge that directly affects the economy, social affairs, and people’s health.

He proposed solutions to deal with such issues, including establishing a new determination and drastic action for green development and net zero emissions. Countries need to accelerate a just and equitable green energy transition, which takes people as the center and leaves no one behind.

PM Chinh also called on developed countries and international organizations to actively support developing and underdeveloped countries in green technology, finance, management, and human resource training.

He highlighted the need to build a renewable energy industry and smart power transmission systems, while strengthening green financial mobilization for climate under the public-private partnership.

Being one of 30 countries submitting a Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), as well as one of the first three developing countries to participate in the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), Vietnam vows to promote the trend of equitable energy transition globally, PM Chinh stated.
