Vietnam Vows to Facilitate Int’l NGO Operations
Vietnam always creates favorable conditions for operations of foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in efforts to support the country in poverty reduction and sustainable development. Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan made the statement at a meeting in Hanoi Nov 1 to receive David Rockefeller JR, Chairman of the U.S.’s Rockefeller Foundation. Rockefeller Foundation is assisting Vietnam in the three fields of health, climate change adaptation and AO victim supports which are also the country’s current priorities, Doan said. Supporting AO victims is a humanitarian issue of Vietnam’s special concern, she said, adding that the country has received strong support from the international community and international NGOs in this area. Doan also expressed her hope that Vietnam would receive further support from Rockefeller Foundation in the coming years. David Rockefeller JR said he was impressed with Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements, pledging that his foundation would continue its cooperation and support for Vietnam next years. Set up in 1913, the New York-based non-profit Rockefeller Foundation is aimed to offer opportunities for the socio-economic and environmental development of poor communities worldwide. Since 2000, the foundation has funded more than $6.6 million for 64 projects in Vietnam, including climate change adaptation project in Danang and Can Tho cities and Binh Dinh central province.
