Vietnam, U.S. Schools to Join Hands in Vocational Training

The People’s Committee of Vietnam’s southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh has approved a cooperation program on vocational training with the U.S., marking the first of this kind licensed in the city to date. Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City Vocational Training College will join hands with U.S.-based Lone Star to offer training courses in database administration, business administration, air condition technology and electro-mechanics, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported Sept 1. Other details about the program have not been made available at this time. Ho Chi Minh City now has 4.7 million people of working age. Of them, more than 265,000 laborers are working at the city’s 13 export processing zones (EPZs) and industrial parks (IPs). Enterprises in the southern metropolis needed to recruit 20,000 employees in August, falling 20% from the previous month, said the municipal Center of Forecasting Manpower Needs and Labor Market Information.
