Vietnam, U.S. Discuss Building of National CDC

On August 15, Health Minister Dao Hong Lan met with Deputy Chief of Mission for the U.S. Mission in Vietnam Courtney Beale and Dr. Eric Dziuban, Country Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (U.S. CDC) in Vietnam, to discuss the next phase of cooperation, including the roadmap for establishing a national CDC in Vietnam.

During the meeting, Minister Lan expressed appreciation for the support provided by the U.S. CDC to Vietnam's health sector in various areas, including disease prevention, technical expertise, and policy development.

The minister tasked the Personnel Department with collaborating with the U.S. CDC to conduct a comprehensive survey and assessment of the local CDC model by the end of 2024. Based on this, a proposal for the Central CDC is expected to be completed by June 2025, incorporating international experiences.

She expressed hope that the collaboration between the U.S. CDC and Vietnam's Ministry of Health would result in an effective Central CDC model tailored to Vietnam's needs, balancing international practices with local conditions.

In light of the upgrade to the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the U.S., she suggested reviewing existing health cooperation agreements to draft a new agreement with updated priorities for the upcoming phase.
