Vietnam, UK Seek to Enhance Health Cooperation

On September 9, the UK Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnam Young Physicians (VYPA) Association held a conference in Hanoi about cooperation potential between the two countries in healthcare and response to emerging diseases, local media reported.

The event was part of a series of activities within the UK Health Exhibition during the UK Week in Vietnam in Hanoi on September 9-10 and in Ho Chi Minh City on September 16.

Addressing the event, British Ambassador to Vietnam Iain Frew highlighted that the health sector will become one of the key areas that the UK wants to promote cooperation with Vietnam. The diplomat added that the UK can share its experiences and expertise with Vietnam to support the latter’s health system sustainability.

COVID-19 showed that both countries could work closely to respond to the world’s biggest challenges, the ambassador noted, pledging to become Vietnam’s key partner in health.

At the event, representatives from the Vietnamese Ministry of Health’s Drug Administration of Vietnam (DAV), Oxford University Clinical Research Unit, and some famous UK pharmaceutical firms presented some development strategies for the Vietnamese pharmaceutical industry and mapped out measures to increase bilateral health cooperation.
