Vietnam Targets 100% Residents to Access to Safe Water by 2025

The Prime Minister has adopted the national program on clean water provision in the 2016-2025 period, with an aim to ensure that 95-100% of residents have access to clean water. Under the program which will be carried out in urban areas and concentrated rural residential areas across the country, 90-95% of residents will be provided with safe water by 2020. The program will have 45% of safe water provision systems completed in urban areas and 35% of completed in rural areas; reduce the amount of waste water in urban areas being discharged untreated into the environment to 80-85% by 2020. After that, 95-100% of residents are expected to be provided with clean water by 2025, while the 50% of safe water provision systems are expected to be completed in urban areas and the amount of waste water in urban areas discharged untreated into the environment is expected to be reduced to 70%. To obtain the targets, the program will develop and complete mechanisms on ensuring clean water provision; manage the exploitation, use and protection of water sources; and apply information and technology in clean water provision.
