Vietnam Sending Tet Gifts to Poor People
Local authorities are busy sending Tet gifts and money to poor households and social policy beneficiaries. The Quang Ngai provincial People’s Committee has extracted VND4 billion from its budget to support ethnic minority groups. Accordingly, each of 44,000 households in mountainous areas receives a gift, consisting of fish sauce, cooking oil and seasoning powder, worth VND100,000. The committee has directed units to send all gifts to poor people before the 26th of Lunar December. Vincom JSC and the Thua Thien-Hue Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs have delivered over 4,000 gifts to ethnic minority groups in A Luoi and Nam Dong communes and some poor communes in Phong Dien, Huong Tra, and Phu Loc districts. Each present, consisting of candies, cakes, calendars and cash, is worth VND500,000. In Binh Dinh province, the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) and Vincom JSC have given poor people over 15,000 gifts valued at VND3.8 billion in total. Meanwhile, Ca Mau province has spent VND28 billion from its budget buying gifts for 33,000 revolutionary families, 6,000 orphans and old people, and 51,000 poor families. (vovnews.vn Jan 20)
