Vietnam Resumes VND2.8T Bridge on ADB-, JICA-funded Expressway
Vietnam has restarted the construction of Binh Khanh bridge, the longest cable-stayed bridge, on Ben Luc-Long Thanh expressway, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), after five years of suspension.
The bridge, with a total investment of over VND2.8 trillion ($116.66 million), is expected to be completed in September 2024, said Mr. Dang Huu Vi, director of the project’s manager Southern Expressway Projects Management Board.
Its construction was kicked off in August 2015 but was suspended in December 2018 when it was 70% complete due to financial constraints.
The prime minister has agreed to cut investment for the expressway by nearly VND1.25 trillion to VND30.07 trillion and extend the completion schedule by September 30, 2025.
The expressway, designed to have six lanes and a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour, will link Ho Chi Minh City with the Trung Luong expressway in southern Long An province and the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau expressway in southern Dong Nai province.
The construction of the 57.8-kilometer expressway was kickstarted in 2014 and was initially expected to be opened to traffic in 2019.
