Vietnam Reports First Suspected Microcephaly Case Caused by Zika Virus

A four-month-old baby in Vietnam’s Central Highlands of Dak Lak province is suspected of microcephaly caused by Zika virus, marking the first case in Vietnam since the country reported having Zika. Zika testing was performed on the mother in a local lab, which revealed she was positive with the virus. The Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology has opened up an investigation and blood samples have been sent to Nagasaki University in Japan for Zika analysis. This happened only days after Vietnamese health officials reported their sixth and seventh Zika virus cases. (VnExpress Oct 17, VietnamNet Oct 17)
