Vietnam Reports 68,300 Hungry Households in May: GSO
Vietnam has reported 68,300 hungry families in May, with 288,000 starveling people, falling 5.7% and 6.3% from a year earlier, respectively. The figures of hungry households and hungers accounted for 0.7% of the total farming households and 0.6% of the total farmers, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said. Most of them are living in rural remote mountainous provinces, central coastal areas and central highlands region where are frequently hit by natural disasters. During the five-month period, the government and organizations at all levels provided more than 20,700 tons of food and VND23.2 billion ($1.1 million) for famine relief. (GSO May Edition)
