Vietnam Reports 61,300 Hungry Households in April: GSO
Vietnam has reported 61,300 hungry families this month, with 261,000 starveling people, falling 16.7% and 20.2% from a year earlier, respectively. The figures of hungry households and hungers accounted for 0.6% of the total farming households and 0.5% of the total farmers, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said. Most of them are mainly living in rural remote mountainous provinces, central coastal areas and central highlands region where are frequently hit by natural calamities. During the four-month period, the government and organizations at all levels provided more than 19,600 tons of food and VND22.4 billion ($1 million) for famine relief. (GSO April Edition)
