Vietnam Reports 595,000 Hungry Households in First Ten Months
Vietnam is estimated to have recorded 595,000 hungry families between Jan and Oct, with 2.49 million starveling people, down 17% and 10% from a year earlier, respectively. The figures include 15,100 hungry house holds with 66,800 starveling people in Oct, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said. Most of the households are mainly in rural remote mountainous provinces, central coastal areas and central highlands region, the GSO added. The government and organizations at all levels have provided nearly 16,900 tons of food and VND9.2 billion ($440,000) for the needy people since early this year. (GSO Oct Edition)
