Vietnam Reports 580,000 Hungry Households in First Nine Months
Vietnam is estimated to have recorded 580,000 hungry families between Jan and Sept, with 2.43 million starveling people, down 15.7% and 8.4% from a year earlier, respectively. Most of the households are mainly in rural remote mountainous provinces, central coastal areas and central highlands region, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said. The government and organizations at all levels have provided nearly 16,900 tons of food and VND9.2 billion ($442,300) for the needy people since early 2011. (GSO Sept Edition)
