Vietnam Reports 53,900 Hungry Households in February
Vietnam has reported 53,900 hungry families in Feb, with 214,700 starveling people, falling 62.4% and 63.4% from a year earlier, respectively. In Jan, the country also recorded 66,300 hungry households, with 269,600 people in dire need of food, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said. Most of the households are mainly in rural remote mountainous provinces, central coastal areas and central highlands region where are frequently hurt by natural disasters. During the two-month period, the government and organizations at all levels provided more than 13,600 tons of food and VND22.4 billion ($1 million) for famine relief in disadvantaged areas.
