Vietnam Reports 300,900 Hungry Households in Jan-Mar
Vietnam is estimated to have recorded 300,900 hungry families in the first three months of 2011, with 1.23 million starveling people, the General Statistics Office (GSP) said. Most of the households are mainly in rural remote mountainous provinces, central coastal areas and central highlands region, the GSO added. The starvation is blamed for consecutive natural disasters, cattle and poultry diseases as well as soaring good prices. The government and organizations have provided nearly 13,000 tons of food and over VND2.3 billion for the needy people so far this year. (GSO Mar Edition)
