Vietnam Reports 200,400 Hungry Households in Quarter 1

Vietnam has reported 200,400 hungry families between Jan and Mar, with 827,100 starveling people, falling 33.4% and 32.8% from a year earlier, respectively. In February, the country also recorded 53,900 hungry households, with 214,700 people in dire need of food, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said. Most of the households are mainly in rural remote mountainous provinces, central coastal areas and central highlands region where are frequently hit by natural disasters. During the three-month period, the government and organizations at all levels provided more than 17,800 tons of food and VND22.4 billion ($1 million) for famine relief in disadvantaged areas.
