Vietnam to Raise Allowances for Teachers at Pres-Primary Schools
Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) plans to increase allowances for teachers at preschools and primary schools per the agreement with the Ministry of Home Affairs, said Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son.
The allowances will be raised by 10% for teachers at preschools and by 5% for teachers at primary schools, Minister Son said at a dialogue with teachers and educational staff nationwide held on August 15.
He said that the increase proposal is awaiting approval from the Ministry of Finance (MoF).
Regarding the retirement age of teachers, Minister Son backed a proposal of categorizing works by preschool teachers as arduous to keep the retirement age of female teachers at 55. He will recommend the government maintain policies to ensure the income of elderly preschool teachers.
Vietnam now lacks more than 110,000 teachers at all levels while over 40,000 teachers have left their jobs due to low income and pressure in the past three years.
