Vietnam Province Starts Finland-funded Water Supply Project

Vietnam’s central province of Nghe An has kicked off a clean water supply project worth more than VND200 billion ($10.26 million) funded by the Finnish government. Of the sum, VND110 billion came from the Finnish government’s official development assistance (ODA) and the rest from the Vietnamese side’s reciprocal capital, the state-run Vietnam News Agency said Dec 11. The project will supply 20,000 cubic meters of clean water per day to locals in 11 communes in Nam Dan, Hung Nguyen and Nghi Loc districts, Vinh city as well as Nam Cam industrial park by 2020. The project, to be carried out by Finnish contractor EConet, will be operational in the next 24 months. Vietnam will implement a rural clean water supply project worth VND500 billion in the 2010-2020 period in order to supply clean water for all people in rural areas nationwide in next decade, compared to the current 40% rate.
